Members of a New Orleans East community may get some information this week that could help them in their fight against a new landfill.

Mayor Ray Nagin agreed to hold off on dumping at the site on Chef Menteur for 72 business hours so that scientists could perform tests to determine whether the debris poses a threat to the neighborhood.

The soil was being tested Monday and on Tuesday a trench will be dug to get a better sample.

Those living nearby suspect there was material that could be harmful.

Testing has to be completed by Tuesday evening, because that is when the moratorium on dumping at the site ends.
